Visual Awareness Training - care homes

Do opticians visit care homes?

At Opticall we pride ourselves on our completely mobile home-visiting optician’s service for those with age or health issues (who cannot make it to the high-street optician). We work in partnership with over 200 care homes and nursing homes in the communities of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Milton Keynes, Barnet and NW London, to deliver our eye care services.

Care Home Sight Tests

Regular sight tests are so important as a resident’s vision can have a major impact on their well-being, quality of life and independence. Regular eye sight testing not only detects changes in vision, it can also help diagnose common eye conditions and other health related conditions (not related to the eyes) such as diabetes and high blood pressure etc.

At a mutually convenient time, our qualified optometrist can visit your residential care home and carry out a comprehensive NHS eye test and eye health check with your care home resident/s. We treat each resident with individual care and the greatest respect and professionalism. Our experienced opticians are DBS checked, highly trained and can support residents with a varying range of health conditions and additional needs, such as dementia care, physical disability or mental disability.

Following the sight test if glasses are required then we can offer a wide range of frames/glasses at competitive prices. Don’t forget that residents may be eligible of a free eye test and help with cost of glasses by checking our eligibility webpage. Our glasses come with free engraving with the resident’s name on, as we know glasses can get mislaid and this makes them easy to identify.

We will speak to the resident’s next of kin to explain the outcome of the sight test and costs (if there are any involved). Once we have the customised glasses we will return to your home to personally hand deliver the glasses and make sure they fit correctly. This is usually within 2 weeks of the eye test.

We also offer a free aftercare so if there are any issues with the glasses, we will resolve them for you.

More recently we have also adopted a COVID-19 safe protocol to ensure social distancing, PPE, sanitisation and COVID-19 vaccine measures are adhered to on all visits. We ensure that we are meeting the highest safety standard and NHS guidelines. For the latest COVID-19 government advice about care home visit arrangements, please check out their website here
